My good friend and fellow tarot & writing aficionado Joely Sue Burkhart expressed interest in the Zombie Tarot, which I had included in the photo of my tarot decks in yesterday’s post. I wanted to give her a heads up about the quirkiness of the deck (which I LOVE, by the way) and the first thing that popped in my head was to say it’s like Mad Men meets Walking Dead.
Look at The Fool from the deck. Wow, that’s Don Draper strolling through a cemetery blissfully unaware that the dead are about to rise. See that hand pushing up through the ground in the lower right hand corner.
Here’s the interpretation from the instruction booklet for The Fool card:
Our hero begins his journey with a spring in his step and a healthy set of blinders, unaware of zombie claws reaching for his feet. You’re bound to make plenty of mistakes in your new adventures, but your enthusiasm might be enough to carry you through a bumpy beginning. Try to pay attention to your surroundings—are those storm clouds on the horizon? – From the Zombie Tarot by Stacie Graham, Paul Kepple & Ralph Geroni.
I’m not saying Don Draper is a Fool, of course. He’s a pretty slick character, but I do wonder how he’d fare in the zombie apocalypse.
