It stormed last night. But it wasn’t just rain and thunder I heard. I heard what sounded like someone or something beating against something. Yes, I know. Pretty vague but it was the strangest sound I’d ever heard. I can’t quite describe it.
Anyway, it was so late (or so early as it was after midnight) that I had no intention whatsoever of getting up to look to see what was making that strange sound. Uh,uh, no way. I’m the kind of person that if I hear people shouting, for example, I go away from the shouting. Not towards it. So investigating strange sounds in the middle of the night that are coming from outside is out of my purview.
So this morning I discovered that the strange noise were these huge greenish nut-looking things falling off the trees or being blown off. They look like apples but they’re not apples. I see tons of them when I walk and if I happen to step on one I squash them.
Speaking of stuff on the ground, there are these trees in the area that have these tiny golden-yellow leaves and now that they’re falling off the trees, they’re carpeting the sidewalk so that it honestly looked like I was walking down a yellow brick road.
Of course, I wasn’t skipping down the sidewalk in a pair of ruby red pumps nor was I being escorted by a village full of merrily singing Munchkins.
Good thing I got my walk in early today. Even as I write this post, it’s clouding up rather rapidly and, since a cool front is forecasted to come through, with the unseasonably warm weather we’ve had, that means rain and thunderstorms. I think it’s supposed to be rainy and stormy for the next few days then switch over to more seasonable October temps. I haven’t had to wear my jacket for the past few days while walking, but I’m sure I’ll have to put it back on.
